When it comes to toaster-shaped vehicles, the 2022 Kia Soul LX hatchback reigns supreme by outlasting the Nissan Cube, Honda Element and the Scion xB. Today the Kia Soul competes with more conventionally styled subcompact crossovers, including the Kia Seltos and Chevrolet Trailblazer; however, it has not given up to those proportions. The Kia Soul LX trim
sees a few changes for 2022.
The previous oval-shaped logo is gone. It is replaced with Kia's new futuristic one. The Soul LX model gets an 8.0-inch infotainment display unit which previously was 7.0 inches.
Drivers can equip the Soul LX trim with a Technology Package, including lane-keeping assist, automated emergency braking and blind-spot monitoring. It also provides push-button start, dual-zone automatic climate control, two more USB ports and wireless smartphone charging as standard equipment.
Engine, Transmission & Performance
Kia provides two
engines in the 2022 Soul. The base one is a 147 horsepower 2.0-liter
four-cylinder paired with a continuously variable dual-clutch automatic
transmission (CVT).
The Soul LX trim needed a full 8.0 seconds approx to reach 60 mph; however, it does not give the feeling of being underpowered in everyday driving. The base engine gets peppy around the city, and the CVT selects lower gear ratios when the driver is looking to pass someone.
Fuel Economy & 2022 Kia Soul LX MPG
The Kia Soul carries an impressive EPA rating for highway driving and in the city. In our fuel-economy test, the turbocharged Soul LX powered by the 147 horsepower, 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine managed to get 28 MPG in the city and 33 MPG on the highway with 14.3 Gallons of gas tank size.
